CHICAGO (CBS) — Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a 56-year-old woman last week on the Near South Side.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, about 6:30 p.m., the suspect approached the woman while she was in her car in the 1400 block of South Clark Street, according to an alert issued by Area Central detectives.

He showed her a gun and had her open the vehicle door, then assaulted her, according to the alert. He then stole her keys, entered her home and demanded money from a 54-year-old man at gunpoint.

The suspect was described as a black man, between 30 and 33 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, weighing 165 to 185 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion, and was last seen wearing a black and red trimmed ski cap and a dark sweater, according to the alert.

Detectives are urging residents to stay in well-lit areas, avoid walking alone and report any suspicious people or activities to police.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call detectives at (312) 747-8380.
